The last update I heard was from May 22nd- about 2400 homes have been damaged and upwards of 1000 people have been affected in some way. The USDA is working with FEMA to get people in homes and sending out their rural development staff to help asses the damage. The first of the funerals (I believe) took place yesterday and the president is supposed to be there this weekend.

I think this is a really important and valid point. We can’t seem to get enough of these gruesome movies, yet when there is an attempt at education or point made to justify why things are done people get up in arms and claim it’s disgusting and inhumane. Why is that?

An amazing video diary narrated by Dr. Temple Grandin about how modern day slaughter plants are set up and how they work. This project was done to try and aid agricultural transparency to the general public. THIS is what the meat industry is and this is what it does.

I am from North America. I was born and raised on the east coast and worked various farm jobs in that time- organic dairy and vegetable farm, purebred Simmental farm, and mixed animal small scale spreads. After graduating high school, I moved west to Montana where I attended college (and graduated about a year ago). Since living out here, I’ve worked large scale commercial ranches, small family ranches, research lambing stations and a meat lab employee. I currently work for the farmers and ranchers of Montana.

There has been a big push for GMO food labeling in grocery retailers nation wide. The California bill lost at the polls and I just got word that Montana is pushing for it.

If you remember, COOL (country of origin labeling) was determined to be unethical and would put certain other countries at a disadvantage.

Do you think the GMO bill is the same and puts certain producers at an unfair advantage or is it different? And as a consumer, do you real care that much if you are eating a GMO crop? And do you truly understand what a GMO is?

Just northeast of Livingston, MT- it started about 10pm on Friday. It has taken about 300 miles, but is thought to be well contained.

I hope this is not a sign of what is to come this summer.

I’ve gotten quite a few new followers in the past couple of days and thought I’d drop you all a note!

I’m so glad you decided to follow me here- if there is anything that you’d like to read about or a question you want me to throw out to the masses just let me know!!

We are entering that crazy time of year of planting and branding! And not too far down the road (I hope!) is haying season! Seems like only last week I was shoveling snow… oh wait- I was!
